Aceh, located on the westernmost island of Sumatra in Indonesia, has long been a source of the world's finest coffee. Among its many varieties, Gayo coffee is particularly popular.
Arabica coffee from the Gayo plateau is known for its unique flavor, aroma, and high-quality texture.
Although a region with strict religious precepts, it has recently begun to open up to other countries and, like West Java, is being re-evaluated as an area that consistently wins top prizes in coffee competitions.
In the autumn of 2025, Aceh suffered significant damage from landslides and floods caused by heavy rains from a cyclone.
